CEJI Conducts Workshop on Antisemitic and Anti-Muslim Hate Speech for the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism (ECCAR)
28/05/2024
On 14th and 28th May, five CEJI and Facing Facts staff members facilitated two online workshops for over 60 local civil servants on better understanding and tackling antisemitic and anti-Muslim hate speech in cities.
The online Workshops focused on:
◾the concepts of hate speech and response systems,
◾the risks associated with the escalation of hate speech and the influence of unconscious biases,
◾the definitions, and current manifestations of antisemitism and anti-Muslim racism,
◾challenges and strategies to effectively handle cases of online hate speech.
Providing tools to combat antisemitism and anti-Muslim racism and hate speech at the local level helps promote equality and inclusion and counters anti-democratic and racist ideologies in society. Learn more about the workshop here. Furthermore, the ECCAR staff reflected on the sessions and compiled a list of ten steps cities can take to combat hate speech.
